The Birchin team is led by Mark Addis, whose insurance career spans more than thirty years, nearly all spent within the professional liabilities area, and working with some of the leading insurance broking groups in the UK.
For more than fifteen years, he was the approved insurance broker to the National Association of Estate Agents (NAEA) and the Association of Residential Letting Agents (ARLA), sitting on their insurance sub committee and insuring nearly 5000 member firms throughout the UK. He was also closely involved with the design and later implementation of the Tenancy Deposit Scheme insurance programme working with the lettings industry and insurers.
In recent years, Mark was the group wholesale managing director of the Giles Group, and led its Lloyd’s broker and MGA, INK Underwriting – helping create an underwriting platform that saw acquisition of more than 10% market share of solicitors professional indemnity insurance (both businesses having now been acquired by AJ Gallagher/Pen Underwriting).
Mark joined Birchin in 2022 to lead its development and help bring independence back to broking.
Starting his career in retail banking, Toby progressed into the world of commercial insurance in 2016, obtaining a high level of technical expertise in insurance broking with experience placing SME commercial, medical malpractice and professional indemnity business.
As a Development Account Executive, Toby works closely with the marketing team, overseeing all business transactions and managing relationships with prospects and the underwriters.
Toby understands the importance of a good presentation to the underwriters and works closely with prospects to fully understand their business and identify key attributes that can be used to negotiate a good deal.
Toby joined Birchin in 2022 to assist in the growth of the business, working closely with the marketing team and realising the strength of working for an independent specialist broker, with freedom to use the insurers who best fit his clients’ needs.
Tom leads all marketing and CRM functions for Birchin, drawing on his extensive career within the specialist insurance broking and underwriting agency sectors since 2008.
He has been involved with some of the UK’s market leading affinity insurance specialists, including Dallas Kirkland (now part of AJ Gallagher/Pen Underwriting), Thistle/Q Underwriting and Marsh – where he gained a deep understanding of the PII insurance needs of multiple professional sectors.
Tom’s dedication to the highest quality of service, communication and understanding of clients’ needs remain his driving motivation at Birchin.
Neil has over 20 years’ experience in the Professional Indemnity Insurance market and is recognised for delivering strong commercial results for clients in complex, high-risk sectors. As co-founder of The Professional Indemnity Company, he helped grow the business into a successful specialist brokerage prior to its acquisition by one of the UK’s largest insurance consolidators.
Specialising in Legal and Construction Professional Indemnity, Neil has arranged programmes for many well-established UK law firms and architectural practices. He is known for his direct, market-facing approach — creating real competition between insurers and securing terms that materially improve premium, coverage and long-term placement security.
Neil joined Birchin Insurance Brokers as a Consultant in 2025, where he continues to leverage his market relationships, sector knowledge and highly commercial mindset to deliver results for clients.
